Design

The pattern for each garment is composed solely of rectangular fabric segments measuring 6”x12”. Such uniformity was incorporated into our core design for several reasons:

  1. We can extract a 6”x12” segment from most repurposed textile scraps/garments we come across, regardless of original size.

  2. Our textile cutting system is streamlined by having to produce only one shape, which is immensely helpful when producing one-off garments.

  3. Smaller pieces engender a patchwork-like quality, allowing us to incorporate contrasting colors and textures as we design each garment.

  4. The rectangle allows for garment modularity: garments may be waist length shirts (2 rectangles in length), mid-leg shifts (3 rectangles in length), or full-length kaftans (4 rectangles in length).

Construction

Each garment is pieced together based on the textiles at hand in our studio. Color and texture are combined with careful consideration on a case-by-case basis. Production is extremely limited because each garment is cut, composed, and stitched by one person from beginning to end.

Expanding the core production team depends on our ability to partner with experienced sewers who wish to co-invest in our vision for design modularity, enhanced creative freedom, and a commission-adjacent compensation model. Rather than an hourly wage, we offer 80% of the price of a sold garment to its producer. Depending on production efficiency and sales price (which is directly related to the quality of the finished garment), our compensation could translate to an estimated $30-$60 per hour.

Fit

We currently offer two widths: 24” wide (four rectangles in width) and 30” wide (five rectangles in width). Many bodies should fit into either or both, with varying degrees of slack. We will enthusiastically produce 36” width garments (six rectangles) or more should our market demand it - or should a single individual request it!

Due to design constraints working with rectangles, all garments that are four rectangles in width will be v neck and all that are five rectangles in width will be square neck.
